Making My Own Dog Tag, Or So I Thought

This post started out as a DIY dog tag memento instruction for a loved one – either furry & four legged or otherwise.

The inspiration for this post is my magnificent, extraordinary lil’ buddy Bob “cat” whom I lost in March of 2018 – Love & Miss him endlessly!

After going through all the trouble of figuring out how to make a low quality version using blank dog tags, I stumbled upon a great resource for custom made to order memorial keepsakes at a very, very reasonable price.

So much for trying to make my own.

Clear Bright Photo Dog Tag. Yeah it really looks this good! I inquired with the seller and the maximum number of letters, including spaces for the special message on the back is 280. That’s A WHOLE LOT of message that can be included with the photo but i’d personally keep it limited to maybe half that amount max. Comes with donut bail & ball chain as shown.

A few things to remember about this dog tag:

  • The material they use is aluminum (light weight and is very durable).
  • Seller is from Canada but the material to make the dog tag is from a supplier in the USA, NY to be exact.
  • Seller may not contact you after purchase so it’s a good idea to be proactive and send them a message with your image and what you’d like your pendant to say on the back.

I wanted to remember my little buddy. Something that could be taken with me wherever I go. Sure I have my smart phone with plenty of pics of him, but I wanted an additional memento, something that could be carried close to my heart and ALWAYS have with me.

Why did I Go DIY Initially For This Memento Pendant?

At first I could not find any locket or memorial pendant that would do my boys image justice! 

They weren’t large enough or practical in terms of presenting his beautiful mug unobstructed.

Most of them were “lockets,” stylish, ornate, fragile even…. ALL that I found were basically girlyman and tiny! 

My initial expectation was to find a plain, straight to the point no nonsense display pendant solely focused on presenting my precious Bob in an easy to see, clear fashion for others to admire, the bonus being to have his image personalized with a special message fitting for such a magnificent creature – absolutely love & miss my boy!!!
